His special skills are dancing, soccer, and sword fighting, and his hobbies are cooking and photography. He wanted to be Kamen Rider, so he aspired to be an actor. He graduated from the dance school "Careless" in Kyobashi, Osaka. He joined the male performance unit SUGER, which was made up of students from the same school, including Shota Shimizu and Yuya Matsushita, and performed street live shows and other activities in Osaka. In September 2006, Careless announced that SUGER had signed a management contract with Kitty Co., Ltd., and he became a talent affiliated with the company. In November of the same year, he appeared in the group's lead role in the play "Flowers Blooming in the Ruins." On November 28, 2007, SUGER released their CD debut with the mini-album FORGET ME NOT ~Flowers Blooming in the Ruins~ on Epic Records Japan. Kawasumi was the youngest member at the time (14 years old). Kawasumi also participated in writing the lyrics for the album's title song, FORGET ME NOT ~Flowers Blooming in the Ruins~ (composed by Shimano Satoshi), which was the theme song for the stage play Flowers Blooming in the Ruins. Kawasumi's lyrics were selected in a lyrics competition within SUGER. In October 2008, SUGER disbanded. He then began working full-time as an actor. On January 1, 2017, he announced on his blog that he had transferred from his long-time company Kitty Co., Ltd. to Cast Corporation. On April 2, 2023, he announced his marriage to talent Hasegawa Ai on his official Twitter account.
