Overview: Two successful, modern day American women, Maria and Sarah, are brought together by a secret connection they never knew they had; their mothers, Apolonia, a Christian, and Esther, a Jew, were best friends during the Polish Holocaust. A recently bequeathed diary from Esther to her daughter Sarah illuminates events of a dark past that lead Apolonia to confess to her daughter, Maria, a lifetime of self-blame and guilt for an unintended betrayal that led to her best friend's capture by the Nazis.
