Once they arrive, the children start to see the ghostly apparitions of two other children and soon we discover that they were the children of the house before a fire reduced it to it's present state. Aided by a magic potion - together, the four of them piece together what actually happened on that fateful night, and to try and rewrite history. This is a superb, gentle, family drama; the 4 children deliver strong and engaging performances and there are some lovely touches from Graham Crowden as "Mr. Clutterbuck" and Diana Dors as the evil "Mrs. Wickens". Written and directed by Lionel Jeffries, this is the kind of family drama we just don't make nowadays.
