Overview: A middle-class family. The son gets a law degree and wants his son to be a lawyer, but the son wants to be a novelist. The son is surrounded by bad friends, so he is led by them into a life of debauchery and slips into the abyss, betrays trust, misappropriates his father's money, and steals his mother's jewelry to satisfy his mistress's demands, which leads to his mother's death.
