Overview: After Partition, Dhaniram and his family moves to Dehradoon. He has three sons: Pran, Kundan, and Madan. Dhaniram runs a chemist shop, when he refuses to co-operate with profiteers, Dhaniram is stabbed and disabled. Pran runs the shop while Kundan moves on to work as a stone contractor. Instigated by his wife, Pran resorts to illegal business to make more money. Family discords create the batwara and house is separated into two sections seperated by a brick wall.
